In Spore you start off as bacteria. You choose what you look like and whether you are a herbivore or a carnivore. Then, after about 1 hour of swimming, surviving and eating, you grow a brain.
When you enter animal stage the whole game changes. You grow legs and, instead of being alone, you live in a nest with others of your kind. Just to be clear, in this stage and every other one you can choose your animal's appearance.
After 2 hours to 8 days you enter tribal stage where you choose your creature's final form.Once you have chosen your creature's final form you begin to add clothes to them.
After another 2 hours to 2 days you enter city stage where you can communicate with other members of your species through radio signals.
Finally after ages and ages you enter your top evolutionary state and enter the space age.
During the space age you can communicate with alien races along with your own species.
